Gov. Oborevwore Address Flooding Challenges in Asaba and Environs
By Jude Ojiugo-Onochie
It is shameful, unbelievable that Asaba the State Capital of Delta State is presently an eyesore, if for no other reason, which at a time or more less Capital of Federal Republic of Nigeria should not be made to wear the look it has presently.
The rainy season has exposed the inept of the state government in its ability to tackle flood menace and poor road networks in Asaba and adjoining Communities, Okpanam, Oko, Okwe and Ibusa communities, just to mention but a few.
How on earth does one described a situation where residents in Asaba are made to stay indoors anytime it rains, as a result of flooding which engulfed many roads in the State Capital, this is not nice at all.
Even the Township roads in Asaba, such as Ogbeosowe/Ogbeilo/Umuaji and even the ever busy Umudaike/Ibusa roads are not spared, for goodness sake this is shameful.
If one may ask, what are the Ministries of Environment, Urban Renewal, Ministry of Works Rural road) and Works (Higher) doing to tackle the twin evil associated with these poor road networks and flooding issues.
For goodness sake, Asaba the State Capital should be accorded the respect it deserves, by ensuring that the various road networks are fixed properly.
Any time it rains, the heavy flooding which comes from Okpanam axis towards State House of Assembly enroute Ekumeku Round about called (Interbau Junction) is shocking, frightening, alarming and intimidating to the extent that workers coming out of the House of Assembly Complex and State Professor Chike Edozien (That distinguished Monarch of blessed Memory) Secretariat are always afraid to access the other opposite sides of the road over heavy flooding.
Those aforementioned roadnetworks are not the only road networks affected. The state governor His Excellency Sheriff Francis Oborevwore, being a grass root politician should make out time to see things for himself and find out appropriate measures to tackle the flood menace to see that the entire residents in the State Capital and adjoining Communities leave a sigh of relief.
If is the considered opinion of all that, if the governor wants to emplace proactive measures, such measures have to be initiated that rains are ceasing abit.
The months of November/December , January/February, is the thinking of all that the state governor should adopt to address the poor road networks/flooding challenges.
The reasons that residents who did not want their names mentioned for these months to be utilised, is that dry seasons are most appropriate for addressing roads hiccups and challenges.
Governor Sherrif Oborevwore please act, a stitch in time saves nine.
