Civil Society Pledge To Work With Incoming Gov’t To implement The OGP Project in Delta State

The Co-chair of Delta State OGP steering committee Barr. Emmanuel Uti, has given the assurance that Civil Society Organisations in Delta State, will work with incoming government to implement the OGP Project in Delta State.
Barr. Uti, gave the assurance at a recent Town- Hall meeting on open government, held in Asaba the Delta State Capital.
The meeting was opened by a cluster of NGOS under the auspices of Niger-Delta Open Government observatory (NOGO), a multi-Centre walk -in and digital hub for Open Government knowledge, information, innovation and advocacy in the Niger-Delta.
Speaking at the meeting, Barr. Uti said an Action Plan has been developed for the implementation of the OGP Project in Delta State, while the state steering committee for the project has been inaugurated.
He said the OGP Project Team in the state was inaugurated as well.
He said however, that the state Action Plan is to be approved by the government, adding that the state OGP Team was waiting for the approval to commence the implementation of the plan.
The Open Government partnership, is an international initiative, that provides a platform for reformers inside and outside government around the world, to commit and implement actions that “promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption and harness new technologies to strengthen governance .
Nigeria joined the partnership in 2016 as its 70th members.
As at today, about 25 states of the Federation, including Delta State has signed the OGP Project.
Delta State joined in 2019 and inaugurated the Steering Committee late last year.
The State Steering Committee is Co-chaired by the Hon. Commissioner for Economic Development Dr. Barry Gbe, who is there as the representative of the government and Barr. Uti, who represented non-state actors.
