The lead Activist for Young Nigeria Rights Organization Comrade Victor Ojei, Popularly called Wong Box has called on the Hon. Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, (SAN.) to address the poor services rendered by Airlines at Asaba International Airport.
A letter signed by Comrade Victor Ojei, on behalf of the Young Nigerian Rights Organization, drew the attention of persistent and worsening issues concerning the airlines operating at Asaba International Airport, specifically AIR EACE, AERO CONTRACTORS and others.
The lead Activist of Young Nigerian Rights Organisation explained to the Minister of Aviation that flight cancellations have become disturbingly common with passengers expected to adjust to the airlines convenience rather than for light legitimate technical reasons.
According to him, this has left passengers stranded often without explanation or recourse, why some airlines refused to accommodate passengers who arrive just a minute late for check-In, despite these delays being caused by the airlines own inefficient staff.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation reminded the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, SAN. that you are entrusted with a duty of care to protect the rights of Nigerians and International users of Asaba International Airport.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, alleged that we have witnessed instances where airline staff arrive late to work and engage in morning prayer sessions, instead of attending to their duties, adding that this kind of unprofessional behaviour is unheard of in global aviation standard.
He said, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), which governs the aviation industry, provides clear guidelines under the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARS) for protecting passengers from poor airline services.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation boss reminded the Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, that Airlines are required to meet minimum standards, and any violations – including flight delays, cancellations without cause, and denial of boarding – can be punished through sanctions, fines and other penalties.
He said in addition to NCAA regulations, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) Act empowers passengers to seek redress when airlines fail to meet service expectations, whether through unfair pricing or unsatisfactory service.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation further explained that as a signatory to the Montreal Convention, Nigeria also has International obligations to ensure that passengers rights are protected, particularly regarding compensation for flight delays and other disruptions.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation said, it is important for the general public to be aware of these PUNISHMENTS and SANCTIONS against airlines so that their rights are not violated on a daily basis.
He said, passengers have the right to demand accountability and these airlines must understand that their actions will no longer go unchallenged.
He said that the NCCA and FCCPC have responsibility to enforce these regulations, but Civil Suits may also be pursued to obtain compensation for losses such as missed appointments and business opportunities.
The lead Activist for Young Nigeria Rights Organisation call on Hon. Minister of Aviation to exercise his mandate and hold these airlines accountable for their conduct at Asaba International Airport.
He regretted the on going pain and inconvenience suffered by the passengers must be addressed, and immediate action is needed to restore the integrity of air travel in the region.
He said in a situation such as this, it is time that civil suits be considered as a mechanism to ensure that passengers are compensated for their suffering , adding that we will continue to hold all parties with a mandate and duty of care responsible for the well – being of the travelling public.
The lead Activist for Young Nigerian Rights Organisation sincerely hope that your intervention will bring much needed reform and that your leadership will lead to improvements in the services provided by airlines at Asaba International Airport.
