Human Rights Activist Petition Delta Governor Over Unprofessional Acts and Misconduct by DESTMA Officials

The Delta State governor His Excellency Francis Sheriff Oborevwori, has been petition over the unprofessional act and Misconduct by Officials of Delta State Traffic Management Agency (DESTMA).
In a petition titled DTSG Governor Oborevwori, Caution Activities of Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) Officials dated 20th March 2025, the governor was advised to take proactive steps to save the image of the State.
The petition was authored by Comrade Ambassador Oritsematosan Agberen, National Coordinator Initiative for Social Rights Concerns Advancement (ISRCA) Aka (No Justice No Peace) raised the alarm that the image of the state is currently at crossroads.
He allegedly that the DESTMA Officials have cultivated the habits of collecting and extorting huge sum of money from suspected road traffic offenders in major roads in Delta State.
The human rights activist alleged that DESTMA Officials have taken over the duties and functions of Federal Road Safety Agency (FRSC) whose duties are to ensure safety of drivers and passengers, and compliance with traffic rules and regulations.
According to him, the DESTMA Officials now issues guidelines and citations to alleged road traffic offenders, such as failure to wear seat belts, driving without driving licence, driving with expired particulars.
He said it is confusing now to know, the functions of DESTMA, FRSC and Police, as DESTMA Officials have taken over the entire functions, as they collect as much as #100,000 to #250,000 from alleged traffic offenders.
He called on the state governor, who is the Chief Security officer and the Chief Executive to call the Chairman of the Agency to order by issuing severe warning to his recalcitrant DESTMA Officials, or in the alternative the governor should review the functions of DESTMA.
