Human Rights Activist Urge I.G. of Police to Launch Extensive Investigation into a Case of Assault and Stealing by 2 Police from A Division Asaba
The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has been petitioned by human rights activist Comrade Jude Ojiugo-Onochie, in respect of what he claimed Misconduct from two acclaimed police officers attached to A Division Asaba , Delta State Police Command.
In a press release, written and signed by him dated 30 July 2024, alleged that on 30 April 2024 at about 12 noon 38 minutes two men came to their house in mufty, banged at their small gate continuously and ordered him Ojiugo-Onochie to open his gate.
The Delta State Coordinator of Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN) said he asked from the two men who they were?
He said the men refused to disclose their identity and that he instructed Ada Onochie to go and open the gate and she did and that Ada Onochie shouted Uncle come, the two men are already inside the compound, Comrade Jude Ojiugo-Onochie claimed that the man who brought them rushed inside and the boys playing ball ran away, and the man left immediately remaining the two acclaimed policemen
According to Comrade Jude Ojiugo-Onochie, one of the two acclaimed policemen brought out his phone videoed the compound and asked him Ojiugo-Onochie, are you the owner of this compound and that the man said it is a criminal compound.
He said one of the acclaimed policemen threatened Ada Onochie to open the door and that if she refuses, he kill Ada Onochie.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie alleged that the man that videoed the compound gave him blow on his shoulder two times while the other man forced his way into the room and fell an aged woman to the ground.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie stated that he asked the two men for their ID Cards, Search warrant and other proofs to ascertain if actually they are policemen which they could not produce, Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie told the two acclaimed policemen that he is the Delta State Coordinator of NOPRIN, and that what the two acclaimed policemen were doing was wrong.
He alleged that, one of the policemen that entered the room came out with two phones, poachers MRS Music player and that when he wanted to meet him he gave blow the 3rd time.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie Stated that he told the man that the phone belongs to him, and that Mrs Blessing Michael pleaded with him that he should release her phone to her.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie explained that the other man that videoed the compound turned his phone in different direction and said this is a cult compound. Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie said he told them that the compound has nothing to do with cultism and that the man told them to come to A Division police station Asaba.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie alleged that in the course of ransacking the house, they stole #250,000 rapped in black nylon kept under the bed belonging to Mr. Onyeka Onochie .
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie said as a firm believer in the rule of Law, that same day being 30 April, the Onochie family petitioned through their counsel J.C. Dikedi Legal Consultant, titled CASE OF POLICE BRUTALITY, EXCESSIVE FORCE, INTIMIDATION, ASSAULT AND STEALING to the Delta State Commissioner of Police mr. Abaniwonda Surudeen Olufemi and the case was assigned to Crack Team Police Headquarters Asaba with the commander then Ibrahim Balarabe.
Comrade Ojiugo-Onochie said that, they were invited to be interviewed by SP Ibrahim Balarabe commander of Crack Team, one Inspector Galadima from A Division Asaba brought out things they removed without the #250,000 which was removed under the bed . She accepted that she assigned them to go on arrest, knowingfully well that one of them was not a policeman but a Private Guard and that the character exhibited was questionable.
The Delta State Coordinator of Network on Police Reform in Nigeria (NOPRIN) urged the Inspector General of Police Dr. Egbetokun to launch and extensive investigation into the matter to save the image of the Nigerian police Force (NPF).
