THE GOVERNOR HAS GONE WELL — HON. (BARR.) ANYAFULU
Hon. (Barr.) Ifechukwukwu Bridget Anyafulu has commended the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori for his performance in his first one year in office.
The member representing Oshimili South State Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly made the commendation last week Thursday while answering questions on Governor Oborevwori’s first One Year in office during her weekly awareness creation programme with Bridge Radio in the Delta State Capital.
The 45 minutes Radio interview programme is aired every 1:30 PM. It is intended to serve as a platform for interaction between the legislator and his constituents enabling the legislator to give account of his stewardship to the constituents and at the same time stay abreast with the needs and aspirations of the people of her constituency.
Governor Oborevwori who took oath of office on May 29th 2023 marked his first one year in office last week.
Speaking further during the Bridge Radio interview, Hon. (Barr.) Anyafulu said the Governor has done well, praising the Governor for completing many of the projects he inherited from the immediate past administration and at the same time initiating and completing many new projects within the first one year in office.
The former Commissioner for Humanitarian & Community Support Services said many roads have been completed in her local government area within this one year while some others are on-going.
Asked to speak about the most important needs of her constituency currently, Hon. (Barr.) Anyafulu named the construction of road to link Asaba through Oko to Aboh in Ndokwa East Local government area and supply of transformers to provide adequate electricity in Oshimili South as presently the most vital needs of her constituency.
The legislator explained that adequate supply of electricity will go a long way in helping to reduce unemployment and poverty in Oshimili South, while the abundant food produced in Oko Communities and Aboh and environs will find easy access into the Markets in Asaba if the road is constructed.
Speaking further on food insecurity, Hon. (Barr.) Anyafulu said she is currently working with small-holder farmers, supporting and encouraging them to be more involved in agriculture and food production.
“All of us”, she further stated, “can contribute towards addressing the problem of food insecurity by farming in available spaces around us”.
During the radio interview programme, Hon. (Barr.) Anyafulu also spoke about the final burial rites for the late Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien which was concluded on Monday this week and the recent fire outbreak that gutted the Cinema House along Okpanam road in Asaba.
She described the fire incident as sad and unfortunate, lamenting that over 90% of the people who lost their jobs as a result of the inferno were young people.
While giving thanks to God that no lives were lost in the incident, the legislator also bemoaned the loss in terms of investment noting that the burnt building was one of the most beautiful buildings in the Delta State Capital.
She praised Governor Oborevwori for ensuring that the fire service and all other relevant bodies did the needful to control the situation and extinguish the fire.
Hon. (Barr.) Anyafulu also disclosed that she has an arrangement to meet with the affected persons in no distant future to assess the damages and consider the way forward.
